Many students ask me about the difficulties and the
requirements for the International Legal English Certificate exam, so I am
eager to clarify some aspects.
During the preparation modules we practice all the
typical skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking), on which the ILEC exam
is based upon.
As I have mentioned in my previous article, the focus
of the courses is the new vocabulary which is carefully explained. In fact, at
the beginning of each course we have a talk about the new legal concepts to be
studied, concepts that I consider more difficult. If the students have to sit
in an exam for becoming an authorized translator, we often translate, but
paying attention to the differences between the Romanian and the Anglo-Saxon
Legal Systems. For the students whose goal is to pass the ILEC exam, we do not
do this because NO tasks for this exam require the translation of texts from a
language into another. The tasks for this exam are based upon similar skills with the ones required
for the other international exams (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge), with the exception
of the use of English task.

Examenul ILEC
presupune susținerea de teste asemănătoare cu cele incluse în programele pentru
examenele IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge (reading, writing, speaking, listening) cu
excepția celui de use of English, deoarece
gramatica limbii engleze nu este testată în exerciții ci în context.
La începutul fiecărui curs se introduc și se analizează
termenii tehnici mai dificili din programa cursului. Dacă studenții trebuie să
susțină un examen în vederea certificării ca traducători autorizați de către
Ministerul de Justiție, se vor realiza și traduceri de texte. Dar studenții
care se pregătesc pentru susținerea examenului ILEC nu vor efectua traduceri
deoarece programa acestui examen NU include susținerea unor asemenea teste.
