About the International Legal English Certificate/ Despre Certificatul International de Engleza Juridica

As I have promised to my students, I would like to give a few tips about the ILEC exam.

Some of the most frequent questions about this exam are: “Is it difficult?”, “Can I pass it?”, “What should I do to pass it?’’, “What can you tell us about the tasks, the timing?…”

I will try to answer. Yes, this is a difficult exam mostly from the point of view of vocabulary. You need to have good knowledge of legal matters from many points of view.

Firstly, in order to attend the preparation modules for the ILEC, your level of English should be at least B1. During the preparation courses, we expand on the vocabulary and also on some legal topics that students are not familiar with. All the tasks for the ILEC exam check the ability of the students to manage in a legal environment. During the speaking test, students have dialogues on many topics starting with general ones and going on with more specialized ones. For the speaking test students should pay attention to the accurate use of tenses and to the use of English in particular.

Cele mai multe întrebări referitoare la examenul ILEC se referă la gradul de dificultate al acestui examen. Într-adevăr, acesta este un examen dificil, mai ales din punct de vedere al vocabularului de specialitate. Toate probele de examen se focalizează în jurul termenilor și temelor de engleză juridică. Participanții la acest examen trebuie să fie pregătiți să susțină dialoguri, să prezinte concepte, să înțeleagă orice mesaj și orice text de specialitate. Gramatica limbii engleze se mai verifică la proba de speaking din punct de vedere al susținerii de dialoguri pe teme de engleză juridică.
